With reaching arms, it commanded a regiment of dark clouds to overtake the sun. The grassland was quickly cast into darkness as fluffy white clouds were forced from the sky.
The savannah had been waiting months for this.
With a snap of lightning, the silence of the plains was broken. Like living dunes, a herd of elands ran for cover. Their hooves clacked dully over the parched earth, kicking up plumes of dust as they scattered. Yafeu watched them with keen interest before rolling on to his side. He gave a quick lick to the angry burns on his foreleg, the skin was hot and cracked to the touch.
Even though the fire happened nearly a month ago, the meerkat still bore painful injuries from the blaze. The fact he was all alone didn't help his situation at all. If these wounds didn't heal soon... Yafeu pushed the thought from his head. A worried look crossed his face. 'No, no it'll heal... It just needs some time, that's all.'
As he lounged beneath the thick web of fallen acacia limbs, he could see that even here the wildfire managed to make an appearance. While the riverbed made it out mostly unscathed, patches of blackened grass and soot-covered trees met his gaze.
It seemed that the entire world was waiting to be revived by the monsoon.
His ear flicked as droplets managed to weave their way through the maze of needles. Rain came lightly at first, pattering down and making small puddles in the riverbed. Deep cracks in the earth were quickly empowered to flow like miniature streams as the storm went from a light mist to a full-blown deluge.
Yafeu rose to his feet with a groan, carefully slipping out from his kingdom of thorns. He limped out to greet the rain with a weary smile on his face.

Aurora simply loved rainy days. The springs monsoons were very pretty to this little 'kat, is was smell and clouds the rain brought that made it so pretty. Aurora was about 25 feet from the river bed that seemed purely drenched of water, that is until now. Aurora let the gental rain droplets hit her face, but then the rain started poring down. With the rain hitting her fur, her imagination expanded. Aurora smiled and imagined the drops of rain to be stars, falling to the earth. Like water makes a plant grow, she pretended it was stars that made the earth green. The female tilted her head, taking up all of the possibilities of what could be happening in her large mind. This was another reason Aurora loved the rain.
Aurora looked down by the riverbed, is that another Meerkat she spotted? Did he/she too enjoy the rain? Surely they must have, any animal wouldn't wanna be out in the cold rain (except for her). Aurora was some what happy that there was the slightest bit of company in the area. Why was it that when ever Aurora was okay to be alone there was someone else? And why whenever she felt lonely there was no one? The answers to these questions were unknown to Aurora, but never look a gift horse in the mouth, right? All Aurora wanted to do now was enjoy the monsoon as it came pattering down on her like the stars she pretended they were. And such beautiful stars they were...
